my first contact with the word of God was a p6 children’s day present from my tutor – a book with 365 bible stories (like a mini bible). i was so excited to receive the present (not knowing the biblical content) that i finished the book within a few days.
later when i believed in the Lord, she bought me a king james version bible – blue hard cover. the old english was a bit difficult to understand.. and i didn’t really have the habit of reading. i enjoy hymn singing more. as in i’ll sing the hymns at home rather than read the Word.
as i grow up older, and attended more youth conferences and meetings, i learnt that reading the bible is like getting to know God better. To find out what pleases Him and what doesn’t. i want to please Him in this area, but i lack the stamina. usually i sustain longer in my daily bible reading after conferences.
reading the bible is also equipping myself with the truth. so many times, my friends asked qn about the bible or bible stories, but i am not sure of the details. usually i’ll have very vague memory that i read it somewhere before, but don’t know where. it also helps to discern what is right and wrong. Some people said it’s ok to eat food offered to idols, because God created all things for us to enjoy. but is it really ok? what does the Bible say?
reading the bible provides timely support and comfort, especially when i am down. the timeliness of God’s word never fail to amaze, comfort and strengthen me. the Lord sheds new light each time we read His Word, even if it is the same portion.
it’s not every time that i understand everything i read. but i learnt that the key is not to be discourage and give up. if we press on, chapter by chapter, the Lord will grant the enlightenment one day.
if you are not reading your bible regularly now, i strongly encourage you to do so and explore the wonderful riches in the Word of God.
Spending time with the Lord yields the highest returns.
i’ll post more accounts of my bible reading experiences if i can recall, besides recent ones.. but my memory seems to be failing me.. *alamak*
